FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about Mobi-Click and Working Alone

General

A personal emergency signal device (PNA) is a technical safety system that automatically or manually triggers an alarm in emergency situations and thus requests rapid assistance. The alarm is signaled acoustically and visually on the device as well as at a connected receiving station.

PNA devices especially protect employees who work outside the sight and hearing range of others – that is, during lone work. They can save lives by immediately initiating the rescue chain.

Lone work occurs when employees work at individual workplaces outside the sight and hearing range of other people. This affects numerous industries: industry, energy supply, agriculture, security services, cleaning, social services, or isolated office workplaces.

Whenever immediate help from colleagues is not possible in an emergency, the activity is considered lone work.

Mobi-Click has been a manufacturer and developer of certified personal emergency signal systems (PNA) and emergency call apps for lone workers for over 20 years. We are thus among the market leaders in lone worker protection and emergency signal technology in Germany.

Our products are used across industries, including:

  • Industry and production (including Ex-protection zones)
  • Energy and water supply
  • Building cleaning and janitorial services
  • Security services and plant security
  • Social services and care
  • Agriculture and forestry
  • Field service and assembly
  • Isolated office and screen workplaces
Legal & Standards

DGUV 112-139 (formerly BGR 139) is the authoritative regulation of the German Social Accident Insurance for the protection of lone workers. It specifies which protective measures must be mandatorily implemented for hazardous lone work.

As an employer, you are legally obliged to ensure not only general protective measures but also technical or organizational personal protection measures. Using a certified PNA device is the most proven method to fulfill this obligation.

Yes. All devices in the Life-Tel series as well as the LifeWatch watches fully meet the requirements of DGUV 112-139 (BGR/GUV-R 139) and are manufactured according to the product standards DIN VDE V 0825-1, DIN VDE V 0825-11, and DIN VDE V 0825-12.

Our ATEX devices (Life Tel 4 L EX2, Life Tel 5 L EX) are additionally certified according to EU Directive 2014/34/EU for explosive atmospheres.

The responsibility lies with the employer. They are legally required to conduct a risk assessment for every lone work position and establish appropriate protective measures. Using a certified PNA system documents the fulfillment of the duty of care towards professional associations and supervisory authorities.

Violations of lone worker protection obligations can lead to fines, increased accident insurance contributions, and significant liability risks in the event of damage. Professional associations can also impose mandatory requirements. A certified Mobi-Click PNA system helps reliably avoid these risks.

Yes. The Life Tel 4 L EX2 and the Life Tel 5 L EX are specially designed for explosion protection areas and ATEX-certified according to EU Directive 2014/34/EU for Ex Zones 2/22. They are used, for example, in the chemical industry, oil and gas extraction, and other areas with explosion hazards.

Yes. The Life Tel App turns an Android smartphone into a fully functional personal emergency signal system. It offers flexible implementation, easy operation, and is quickly ready for use. Please check the system requirements to ensure your device is fully compatible.

Technology & Alarm Functions

The man-down function (also: rest alarm or will-independent alarm) automatically detects when a person becomes immobile, falls, or assumes a dangerous body position – even if they are no longer able to trigger an alarm themselves.

The device first sends a pre-alarm. If this is not acknowledged within a defined time frame, the device automatically triggers a full emergency call.

  • Manual alarm (will-dependent): Triggered by the person themselves via SOS button
  • Man-down/rest alarm (will-independent): Automatic triggering upon immobility
  • Fall detection: Automatic triggering upon detected fall
  • Position sensor alarm: Monitoring of body angle (e.g., during seated activities)
  • Pre-alarm: Acoustic/visual warning with acknowledgment option before the actual alarm

As soon as an alarm is triggered, the device automatically sends GPS coordinates via SMS to the stored emergency numbers or the connected control center. This allows the injured person to be located quickly and precisely – crucial when every second counts.

Some devices (e.g., LifeWatch 2 and 4) also enable indoor positioning via WLAN and Bluetooth.

  1. Device detects irregularity (immobility, fall, etc.)
  2. Pre-alarm on the device – person can acknowledge themselves
  3. No acknowledgment → automatic alarm triggered via SMS and/or call
  4. GPS coordinates are transmitted
  5. Control center or contact person establishes voice contact (hands-free connection)
  6. No contact possible → rescue measures are initiated

For noisy environments, we recommend devices with an integrated vibration motor (e.g., Life Tel 2 M version). These signal pre-alarms and feedback additionally via vibration, so acoustic signals cannot be missed.

Control Center & Alarm Management

No. You can manage the emergency call yourself – e.g., via your own doorman, security service, or internal control center. Alternatively, we offer connection to our professional 24/7 emergency call center.

The receiving party must be able to receive and process phone calls and SMS, as GPS coordinates are also transmitted via these channels.

Our emergency call center monitors and coordinates incoming alarms around the clock. It receives emergency calls, tries to establish voice contact with the affected person, and initiates rescue measures if necessary. All relevant information (GPS coordinates, device data) is immediately available to the control center.

  • Life Tel 2 LTE and LifeWatch devices: up to 3 stored emergency numbers
  • Life Tel 4 and larger smartphones: up to 6 pre-programmed phone numbers

The alerting is done sequentially via SMS and/or call. If a number is unreachable, the next one is automatically contacted.

The PNEZ-S (Personal Emergency Signal Reception Center Software) is our reception center interface for companies that want to operate their own internal control center. It receives emergency signals from PNA devices, monitors their status, and coordinates alarm processing.

Setup & SIM card

Most Mobi-Click devices require an active nano-SIM card with 2G/4G support (phone & internet). For maximum network coverage, we recommend our optional multi-network/M2M SIM card, which covers several mobile networks simultaneously.
